ROLEX GMT MASTER II “BATMAN” 116710BLNR

ROLEX GMT MASTER II “BATMAN” 116710BLNR

The original Rolex GMT-Master was launched in the mid-1950s, during a period known as the aircraft boom. The introduction of jet aircraft technology revolutionized aviation, allowing pilots to fly significantly farther and faster. Recognizing the need for pilots to track time across multiple time zones, Rolex partnered with Pan Am Airways to design a watch with the ability to display two time zones simultaneously. This concept evolved, leading to the later release of the GMT-Master II in 1982, which featured an independently adjustable hour hand for even greater functionality. In 2013, Rolex debuted the first “Batman” watch, officially known as the GMT-Master II, reference 116710BLNR. Its distinctive black and blue ceramic bezel, a first for Rolex, immediately brought to mind the classic Batman color scheme. The Rolex GMT-Master II “Batman” quickly became a coveted timepiece, capturing the hearts of watch aficionados with its distinctive nickname and the exceptional craftsmanship that pushed the boundaries of watchmaking.

The production run of this model concluded in 2019 with the release of its updated successor, the GMT-Master II, reference 126710BLNR. While retaining the “Batman's” signature black and blue bezel, the latest model distinguishes itself with a five-link Jubilee bracelet, replacing the previous Oyster bracelet. While the Jubilee bracelet is now standard across the line, some traditionalists consider this a step away from the GMT-Master II sporty heritage, preferring the original Oyster bracelet. Consequently, prices for the original “Batman” Rolex have seen a significant increase on the secondary market. We currently have a 2013 pre-owned 116710BLNR “Batman” in stock, which includes the original manufacturer box and a one year David and Sons Timepiece warranty.
