SPEEDMASTER BLACK DARK SIDE OF THE MOON 311.92.44.51.01.005

On December 21, 1968, astronauts Frank Borman (Commander), James A. Lovell Jr. (Command Module Pilot), and William A. Anders (Lunar Module Pilot) embarked on the historic Apollo 8 mission, marking the first time humans traveled beyond Earth’s orbit and orbited the Moon. The crew orbited the Moon ten times, proving that humans could not only travel to the Moon but also safely orbit it and return to Earth. They completed their mission and splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on December 27, 1968.

The Apollo 8 astronauts were the first humans to see the far side of the Moon with their own eyes. Their mission represented a significant milestone in space exploration and laid the groundwork for future lunar landings, most notably Apollo 11 in 1969.

To honor the crew’s groundbreaking achievements, Omega released the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon collection in 2018, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 8 mission. The timepiece is offered in 8 variations:
